Stock Market Today: June 30, 2020

06/30/2020 U.S. stocks began the holiday-shortened trading week with a sharp move higher. Strong housing data helped kick start the day into high gear. This good news was enough to outweigh concerns over COVID-19 flare-ups in several states, which forced local governments to put reopening plans on hold, or even take a few steps back. As we look to the new day, U.S. stock futures are suggesting the major indexes will open with a modest decline.

Stock Market Today: June 29, 2020

06/29/2020 As we are set to begin the penultimate trading day of June, the main theme on Wall Street this month has been the return of volatility to the market. Recall that the 30-day stretch started on an upbeat note, with optimism that the U.S. economy was reopening across the country and a much better-than-expected employment and unemployment data for the month of May pushing equities higher.

Stock Market Today: April 30, 2020

04/30/2020 The month of April will be coming to an end today, and for all of the economy's struggles and the worrisome path being taken by the deadly coronavirus, the stock market is enjoying a nice recovery, following a dreadful March. Now, a new day begins, and after the futures markets moved higher last night, the current trend this morning suggest that the stock market will open matters on a mixed note, with gains in the NASDAQ being offset by losses in the Dow.

Stock Market Today: March 27, 2020

03/27/2020 Wall Street strove for a so-called three-peat yesterday. Specifically, after weeks of steady and alarming losses, the stock market rallied strongly on Tuesday, largely on the promise of the pending $2 trillion fiscal stimulus program. Further progress on that bill then helped stocks advance modestly on Wednesday. Although yesterday got off to a shaky start, overall, it was the third straight advance for the market, and the biggest three-day climb since 1931. Now, the quest will be for a fourth straight day of gains, and on that count, the equity futures are pointing to a pullback to start the new session.

Stock Market Today: March 26, 2020

03/26/2020 The stock market has certainly been making things interesting over the past month, and that clearly includes this week so far. To recap, stocks fell anew on Monday, even though the Federal Reserve made a major commitment to asset repurchases. Then, on Tuesday, indications out of the Senate that the much-touted $2 trillion fiscal stimulus package was nearing adoption sent the market surging. In all, the Dow Jones Industrial Average jumped 2,113 points on that expectation. The other indexes skyrocketed, as well.

Stock Market Today: March 19, 2020

03/19/2020 Yesterday’s full-day selloff says that the Street is still under intense pressure from fears about COVID-19. The late buying says that there is the potential for a sizable comeback at any point as stocks are way oversold. Looking out to a new day and after some initial strength in the futures last night, these indicators again have turned negative, suggesting a weaker opening when trading resumes this morning.

03/12/2020 The bears are at it again. As if losses of 2,014 points and 1,465 points in the Dow Jones Industrial Average on Monday and Wednesday of this week, respectively, the blue chip index is plunging another 2,000 points as we begin the afternoon session today. Comments by the President today that the markets will be just fine are doing little to counter the selling.

Dow 30 Earnings: Boeing Fourth Quarter 2019

01/29/2020 Struggling aerospace and defense giant Boeing (BA) has reported December-period financial results. As expected, the company's performance was lackluster because of its ongoing troubles with its 737 Max 8 platform. Despite the poor showing, Boeing shares advanced following the news. The increase, in our view, may have stemmed from investors assuming the results would have been even worse. In addition, a number of other large, multinational stocks were up following news that fears of the spread of the Coronavirus have eased somewhat
