Stock Market Today: April 24, 2017

04/24/2017 The stock market opened sharply higher this morning and managed to maintain much of these gains through the afternoon. Much of the strength in the United States likely originated overseas. Specifically, equities in Europe rallied in response to political developments in France, and this set the stage for a solid opening on our shores. Further, Wall Street may be hoping that the Trump Administration will be able to advance a new tax plan, which would give the economy an additional boost. At the close of the session, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was ahead roughly 216 points; the S&P 500 index was up 25 points; and the NASDAQ was higher by 73 points.

The Federal Reserve Issues Its Beige Book Amid Few Surprises

04/19/2017 The selectively weaker stock market was at least treated to a generally benign Federal Reserve Beige Book economic summation. On point, the Fed noted that each of its 12 Federal Reserve Districts had experienced economic growth between mid-February and the end of March and that the pace of this improvement could be termed modest to moderate. In addition, the pickup was evident across the various economic regions of the country and the respective business sectors.
